Not Love, Just Frenzy 1996
Are sex and love the same, or even equal? This is the central question in the sexually-powered Spanish film about three girls, two guys, and a nightclub: MÁS QUE AMOR FRENESI (NOT LOVE, JUST FRENZY). Yeye (Ingrid Rubio), Maria (Beatriz Santiago), and Monica (Cayetana Guillen Cuervo) all search for romantic fulfillment, be it emotionally (Yeye and Maria) or just physically (Monica). Max (Nancho Novo), in a world consumed by sex and women, reunites with Yeye, his ex, in order to hide his deadly secret. Then there is Alberto (Gustavo Salmeron), a young virile gay man and close friend of the girls, who falls in love with the wrong men. All of the characters' stories culminate in one spot, the sexy anything-goes nightclub named Frenesi. Directed by: Alfonso Albacete, Miguel Bardem and David Menkes.

Kika 1993
Pedro Almodovar's dark look at contemporary violence, voyeurism, and sensationalism. A wild mixture of characters make up the cast: Kika (Verónica Forqué), a makeup artist, is involved with both the subdued Ramon (Alex Casanova) and his stepfather Nicholas (Peter Coyote). Nicholas's ex, Andrea Caracortada (Victoria Abril), searches out the most perverted criminals for her tabloid TV show. And Kika's maid (who, incidentally, is in love with her) has a brother who's a sexual offender. Bibí plays the part of Susana, the beautiful stranger. All the parties come together after a particularly vicious rape leads to an uncovering of long-kept obsessions and secrets, including murder. Directed by: Pedro Almodóvar.

Becky Del Parmo (Marisa Paredes), aging pop star, returns to Madrid after a 15 year absence to perform and reconcile differences with her estranged daughter. Her daughter Rebecca (Victoria Abril), a television news anchor is married to Manuel (Feodor Atkine), owner of the station and Becky former lover. When Manuel is discovered murdered, Rebecca, stricken with grief, confesses on nationial television and is arrested. At this point in the film, Bibí's character Suzanna first appears. Juez/Hugo/Letal all played by (Miguel Bosé) is an interesting actor to watch. Letal is female impersonator, but that's all I'll say otherwise I will give away the ending. There are lots of twists and turns that keep you quessing who the murderer really is. Directed by: Pedro Almodóvar.

Law of Desire 1987
After a one-night stand, a philandering porn director inadvertently elicits from his dejected fling an obsessive love that eventually entangles his pious Catholic transsexual brother, a father/son detective team, and a sensuous woman in a web of mayhem. Pure Almodovar, with an onslaught of shockingly funny, provocative, and macabre plot developments told in a high-toned screwball style. Directed by: Pedro Almodóvar.

Matador 1986
When a young bullfighting student claims responsibility for a string of murders, his female defender is drawn into a web of dangerous sexual intrigue and erotic depravity, at the center of which resides the head of the bullfighting academy. | Sex Change 1976 |
The film is based on the story of the young Jose Maria an effeminate young man who undergoes a sex change, played by Victoria Abril. Victoria Abril made her major screen debut in this film at age 17. Jose leaves her hometown for Barcelona where she starts a double life as the seductive Maria Jose, exploring and developing a female identity. Maria Jose befriends night club star Bibi, (played by Bibí Fernández in her screen debut) famous for her transvestite act. But as soon as Bibi undergoes surgery to become a woman, she loses her job as the main attraction at the night club, and Maria Jose, as the pre-op transsexual, replaces her. In 1972, the production of Cambio de Sex was halted because of censorship problems. Director Vicente Aranda was finally allowed to finish shooting the film, which was released in 1976 to critical acclaim.
