Mascara • 1987

Starring: Michael Sarrazin, Romy Haag, Jappe Claes, Harry Cleven, Derek De Lint, Herbert Flack, Charlotte Rampling, Eva Robin's and Serge-Henri Valcke.

The investigation into a transvestite entertainer's death leads a police inspector (Michael Sarrazin), his sister (Charlotte Rampling) and her lover into the decadent night life of Belgium.

Eva first appears in the movie at the train station where the police inspector is waiting. Later she is at Romy Haag's after-hours club performing on stage and her final scene in the dressing room.

This film uses the "shock scene" where in this case the audience discovers that Eva is not what she seems, very much like in the film "The Crying Game" which was released some years later in 1992. I find this disturbing because there is the implication that somehow Eva being transgendered justifies what is about to happen to her. This theme appears again unfortunately in the film "Belle al Bar".
